SOUNDS OF BRAZIL PDX: PAULA SANTORO and IAN FAQUINI
DIRECT FROM BRAZIL - PAULA SANTORO and IAN FAQUINI Brazilian singer Paula Santoro returns to Portland with guitarist Ian Faquini as part of their 2016 CD (Metal na Madeira - "Metal on Wood") release tour. The album features all original compositions by Faquini and presents a fresh take on traditional Northeastern rhythms such as Maracatu, Frevo, BaiĆ£o, Xote, and Toada, maintaining a foot in the past while stepping towards the future with modern harmonic and melodic structures.

Composer/guitarist Ian Ian Faquini utilizes a wide range of Brazilian rhythms and grooves while grasping strong melodic and harmonic influences from composers such as Guinga, Gershwin, Bach, Ravel, Duke Ellington and Tom Jobim. Ians brilliant guitar playing is natural, rooted in Brazilian rhythms and Jazz, and genuine.
Ian Faquini is a remarkably gifted composer/guitarist ( Benny Green, Berkeley) JASNAM DAYA SINGH (WEBER IAGO) The erudite jazz pianist will open the evening.
