Los Angeles International Neon Jubilee - Daytime Street Festival
The Velaslavasay Panorama warmly invites you to a day-long street festival celebrating the re-lighting of our restored 1939 neon marquee. Dedicated to the wealth of diverse cultural identities and their histories in Los Angeles, The Velaslavasay Panorama will host a lineup of talented musicians, performers and entertainers bound to dazzle adults and children alike.
The Los Angeles International Neon Jubilee will kick off at 12-noon with a dedication featuring city officials and neighborhood representatives. From 12-noon til 3pm the Echo Park Film Center will be on hand to offer animation activities and workshops for children and adults alike with their EPFC Filmmobile.
The days' live performances, held on the street in front of the Velaslavasay Panorama, feature The LA Rollers a troupe of roller skate dancers featured in the documentary L.A. ROLL; music by DJ Lance Rock (Yo Gabba Gabba!) and an Argentinian accordion player. Food trucks, cartoonists and handicraft vendors will be available as well, including the neighborhood Natures Brew Coffee Cart.
Inside the theatre, enjoy scheduled activities such as a puppet shows by the Bob Baker Marionette Theater and an illustrated lecture on the history of neon in Los Angeles by J. Eric Lynxwiler.
Events in the theatre are free and will be ticketed on a first-come-first-serve basis. The garden and grounds of the Velaslavasay Panorama will be open all day in between the events, where visitors can relax and enjoy live ambient music from the Gazebo.
At 6pm, a façade re-dedication and ribbon cutting will take place with representatives of the Museum of Neon Art and Chicken Boy (of Highland Parks renowned Future Studio) as the official master of ceremonies presiding over the ceremonious moment.
The day portion of this event is completely free and open to the public.
