A ragtime speakeasy party in a secret Brooklyn loft, with hot jazz bands, blazing burlesque divas, exotic cocktails, and DJs remixing and reinventing vintage grooves late into the night. "Gatsby-era fun with a twist of new-school vibe" (The Village Voice).

The night starts with an introductory foxtrot dance class by Brooklyn Swings (who teach at our loft every Monday night): foxtrot was the hottest dance to come out of the 1910s, and existing to this day as a popular dance form.

Live music until 1am.  As we wait for the band, you'll be entertained by the ragtime piano of Isaac Tetenbaum. Burlesque fabulousness during and between band sets, by the "hysterical" Victorian Beelzebabe and Deco darling Dandy Dillinger. Sweet remixed vintage beats after, until the dancing is done.

The Jazz Age never ended, it just got funky. Dress accordingly: "An event worth wearing that ridiculous zoot suit for." - TimeOut NY; "Corsets and top hats tweaked with studs and leather are totally appropriate." - The New York Times. Suggestions: vintage (1920s-1940s) with a modern twist, cabaret, burlesque, Weimar Berlin, classic Hollywood, classy, sassy, tailored, hats, feathers, sequins, beads. Effort required. Dress code modern-friendly after 1am for the electro-swing dance party

Downton to Deco weekend: The Grand Victorian Garden Tea

Join us as we travel back in time to the Victorian Age, to an elegant country resort a short carriage ride away from the hustle and bustle of the city (which at that time extended only as far north as 14th Street). It's a proper turn-of-century tea party, with finger sandwiches, scones and fancies, in a darling garden attached to an impossible Victorian cottage overlooking modern Manhattan. Full catering by King's Carriage House, a secret Victorian-inspired tea lounge on the Upper East Side. Historical chef Rebecca Leigh Silverman will be back to create Downton-inspired treats from antique recipes.

Dress code: 1800-1910s summer garden party, with all-white, cream and pastel tones encouraged. No modern casual wear, please - though modern formal summer wear is easy to accessorize with a nod to Victorian times. Costume inspiration Pinterest board (not ours): http://bit.ly/1WvlVyB - and we have one for our banquet/ball/tea research here: http://bit.ly/29n5fZm

About our venue:
Constructed in 1799 as a carriage house for a 23-acre estate, and converted into the Mount Vernon Hotel in 1826, this stone building sits on land originally owned by Colonel William Stephens Smith, and his wife Abigail Adams Smith, daughter of John Adams. The hotel operated until 1833, at which point the house became the home for three generations of a New York City family.
