Women's Self-Defense with instructor Bridger Fox! Intro to Self-Defense Stats, Skills, & Strategies

This 4 hour seminar introduces a wide range of topics with the goal of increasing your safety and security. We will focus on the unique challenges specific to women.*
Self-defense is about keeping yourself safe, adapting skills to your abilities** and environments. It is non-competitive and thus, no specific physical fitness is required.
A broad range of topics will be introduced:
Terminology, definitions, & practice rules How women are targeted and assaulted Psychology & Neurophysiology of Self-defense Sexual assault & Intimate partner abuse Physical foundation skills Common scenarios Verbal & Non-verbal strategies Intro to weapons defense Intro to multiple attackers Intro to improvised weapons Involving law enforcement How to practice on your own Post-trauma care
About the instructor: Bridger Fox
Began martial arts in 1989 and competed in many disciplines. Certified trainer in CrossFit, Corrective Exercise, and several martial arts and combatives systems. Lifelong activist for human and environmental rights. Worked as crisis counselor and case manager for at-risk youth, as well as executive protection, armed security, and nightclub bouncer. Founded Progressive Martial Arts of San Francisco, the school for social justice and self-defense, in November 1999 and operated it until November 2014. Currently, studying public health policy & intersections of violence. She is writing a book about how the martial arts address, fail to addressand perpetuates intimate partner abuse and sexual assault. * This workshop is designated for women and focuses specifically on issues which affect those who identify as women or are perceived as women. We welcome transgender women and gender queer individuals. The next workshop will be open to all gender identities. If there is enough interest, a workshop specific to transgender and gender non-conformist issues may be offered. Please do let the instructor know if you are interested.
** Disability friendly and modifications for movements and skills will be available. Please do notify the instructor of any injuries or disabilities, so that modifications and alternatives may be offered. Bridger is no stranger to disability and illness as she continues to fight late-stage Lyme and Babesia infection acquired from a tick bite.
