Studio Squared: Move to Abstraction
Studio Squared is a series of informal art-making workshops aimed at making a wide range of studio practices accessible to adult audiences. Each workshop focuses on a particular theme and creative process inspired by our exhibitions, and explores methods of creative production through an experiential approach.
This hands on workshop will highlight Alma Thomas's rare explorations of narrative subject matter. Led by Museum teaching artist Monique Schubert, the program will commence with a group tour of Alma Thomas, where participants will engage in open dialogue around the artist's representational works and the social contexts that inspired them. They will then move into the Theatre and draw upon their discussions by abstracting elements of their own social contexts into a figurative composition utilizing Thomas's signature watercolor technique.
Thanks to the generous support of Target, Museum admission and public programs are free and open to the public on Sundays.
