LAGOS ROOTS AFROBEAT ENSEMBLE with Piwai

Lagos Roots was founded in 2010 by legendary Nigerian musician Geoffrey Omadhebo (Sonny Okosuns, OJ Ekemode). The sounds Geoffrey brings to the band originates from the pioneer of the Afrobeat music genre, Fela Kuti and Africa 70, who Geoffrey got to watch at rehearsals since his sister was a dancer for Fela.

The Lagos Roots Family consists of some of the San Francisco Bay Areas best musicians who bring an extraordinary assemblage to the stage combining Omadhebos authentic, over-the-top vocal delivery with infectious call-and-response choruses, intricately-locked guitar lines, authentic afro-funk vintage keyboards, massive horn-blasted melodies and backgrounds, and a driving/groove-obsessed trap drum and percussion section.

They bring their show to the Elbo Room for two sets, a full night of Afrobeat with DJ Prince setting the tone and an opening set from Piwai who just dropped her new album African Turquoise.
