Event
Writing with the Body with Cristina Castrillo (Teatro delle Radici - Switzerland / Argentia)
Saturday 8, Sunday 9 & Monday October 10, 2.30 6.30pm AKI Studio, Daniels Spectrum, 585 Dundas Street East
This master class focuses on creating a physical language inspired by our personal lived experiences and transforming them into poetic theatrical images that allow us to write with or without the use of words. Through introspection and movement the participants not only acquire new skills and techniques, but rather a new way of discovering oneself.
Open to actors and non-actors, dancers and physical performers.
Maximum participants: 14
This class will be conducted in English and Spanish, with interpretation in both languages.
The fundamental inescapable element of Cristina Castrillo's theatrical work is memory; not only with a reference to what one remembers or thinks one remembers, but rather as that particular, often imperceptible, network of cues through which an emotion appears or a reaction directs movement. Memory is not perceived as a reproduction of facts, but as an uncharted personal geography, with which we manifest ourselves, we materialize, we portray and we transmit.
For Cristina's method of training, the use of the personal in workshop and performance contexts provides a way of protecting the performer and also a means of keeping the political onstage. ("An introduction to Feminism and Theatre" - Elaine Ashton)
Cristina Castrillo is an outstanding actress and theater director. She has dedicated herself professionally to theater since the early 70s with the Libre Teatro Libre, one of the most important groups in Latin America. In 1980, she founded the Teatro delle Radici in Switzerland. Her exclusive dedication to the investigation of the elements that base the training of the actor, resulted in the creation of a series of group and/or individual presentations, valuing the actors role as the centre of the creative action. In 2014, she received the Swiss Award for Theatre at FIC (Federal Institute of Culture). She is the director of the International Theatre Lab School in Lugano, Switzerland.
