Santa Ana Sites: KAKI KING - The Bridge is the Neck to the Body
Hailed by Rolling Stone as a genre unto herself, guitar virtuoso and composer Kaki King will perform her groundbreaking multi-media work, The Neck Is a Bridge to the Body for the next edition of Santa Ana Sites. A visionary at the forefront of her craft, King re-imagines the potential of a solo performance by fusing visceral, acoustic arrangements with mesmeric projection mapping. King performs The Neck Is a Bridge to the Body on her all-white Ovation Adamas six-string acoustic guitar, which doubles as a video monitor. The guitar is mounted on two rods and completely immobile; textured imagery is projected onto the instrument as King unleashes her intricate fretwork and emotional melodies. Additional imagery is projected onto a backdrop behind her, creating a visual dialogue between the two surfaces that speak to one another through Kings masterful sound. The visual component of The Neck was produced in collaboration with Glowing Pictures, known for their work with artists including David Byrne, Animal Collective, Brian Eno, The Beastie Boys, and TV On The Radio. The one-night-only concert will fill The Ritz with Kings innovative sights and sounds. The venue is an emerging performance and special events space located above the historic Yost Theater. Exposed high ceilings with skylights offer more than ambiance, they provide resonating acoustics. Oversized windows, hard wood flooring, and a custom bar add to the venues elegant yet underground feel. King and her exploratory, visual production have garnered high critical praise, with The Boston Globe heralding, Ive never seen anything like it... a sumptuous feast for the senses, a dizzying display of sound and vision by a guitarist already renowned for her innovation... I repeat: Do not miss this." About Kaki King Kaki King, named one of Rolling Stone Magazines newest guitar gods, has released 8 extraordinarily diverse albums over the past decade.
