Le Vent du Nord
Weve said it before and we will say it again: If you've seen them before, you already know. And if you've never seen them, words won't do them justice. Simply put, Le Vent du Nord is one of the best bands touring today, no matter your musical taste. These four fantastically talented musicians play stomping traditional French-Canadian music with a cohesive playing style, a powerful groove, an almost rock attitude, clarity of voice, and accuracy of instruments. Every performance captures the energy and mirth of a Saturday night kitchen party, infusing old Québec with a breath of fresh, cosmopolitan air.
This multiple-award winning foursome effortlessly tackle instruments ranging from mandolin, diatonic accordion, acoustic guitars and bass, and mouthharp, to fiddle, a hurdy gurdy, even an Irish Bouzoukiwhile all handle vocal duties. Their musical intimacy comes from over a decade of being one of Quebecs most popular, award-winning bands. Since the groups founding in 2002, the quartet has racked up several prestigious awards, including two JUNOS (Canadas Grammys), two Canadian Folk Music Awards, one Grand Prix du Disque Charles Cros (France), and Artist of the Year at Folk Alliance Internationals annual gala (USA).
With their eighth and most current album, Têtu, Le Vent du Nord hold to a steady course, staying faithful to their Québécois roots while at the same time taking an unyielding approach to innovative new ideas. Their songs cover politics, love, and satire, plus many foot-stomping dance tunes, and their music is getting sharper, more refined, and ever more thoughtful than ever. When it all comes together, it's magic, and we are so happy and honored to be welcoming them back to The Nelson Odeon stage.
