Comedy Returns to El Rio!
San Francisco, CA Comedy Returns to El Rio! is a popular monthly comedy show (every 3rd Thursday of the month) co-produced by Kung Pao Kosher Comedy's Lisa Geduldig and El Rio. The show, now in its 8th year, takes place at El Rio in San Francisco's Mission District and showcases an eclectic multicultural mix of intelligent, progressive comedians from the Bay Area and beyond.
This month features: Marga Gomez, Eloisa Bravo, Justin Lucas, Priyanka Wali, and Lisa Geduldig.
Marga Gomez has appeared on LOGOs One Night Stand Up, Showtime's "Latino Laugh Festival, Comedy Centrals Out There" and HBOs Comic Relief at the invitation of Robin Williams who called her Amazing a lesbian Lenny Bruce. She has been a guest on leading comedy podcasts Marc Marons "WTF," "The Keith and The Girl Show and Kevin Allison's "Risk." Her comic style has been described as deliciously cheeky and incendiary by the New York Times and salaciously surreal by the San Francisco Chronicle. The SF Weekly named Gomez one of 2016s Artists To Watch. Huffington Post named her an "Agent of Change" in 2015. She is also a GLAAD Award winner, a Theater LA "Ovation Award" winner, and triple winner of the San Francisco Bay Guardians Best of The Bay Comedian Award and multiple of The Bay Area Reporter's "Bestie Award." She is currently working on her 12th solo play "Latin Standards" which will be presented in November 2016 at Brava Theater in San Francisco. www.margagomez.com
Eloisa Bravo started her comedy career soon after she discovered she couldn't have children and a subsequent divorce. She holds nothing back and derives her material from real life, exploding with energy on stage. You'll notice her immediately for her Venezuelan accent and highly expressive performance; yet it's the nature and intensity of her material that will stick with you, with its unique perspective on the issues affecting urban, single women. Packed with energy and cuteness she will make you laugh, assuming you are lucky enough to understand her accent. She has performed at the San Francisco Punchline, the Purple Onion, Rooster T. Feathers, as well as the Palm Beach, Miami, and Hollywood Improvs. She has won several comedy competitions in the Bay Area and produces comedy and variety shows including Trainwreck Cabaret and Cheaper Than Therapy. www.eloisabravo.com
Justin Lucas, a San Francisco native, began doing stand up in 2011 at the Punchline, Cobbs, and other popular Bay Area venues. He has opened for well-known comics including Alec Mapa, Bobby Lee, and Faizon Love. Justin has successfully entered a number of comedy competitions, becoming the 1st runner-up in the 2013 Bay Area Black Comedy Competition and the 1st place winner in the 2013 Mic is Hot Comedy Competition. His most recent achievements include winning a 2015 Bay Area Reporter Besties Award for Best Male Comedian and making his TV premiere in HBO's Looking, opposite Jonathan Groff.
Priyanka Wali is a stand up comedian by night and a doctor by day. She performs routinely all throughout California, including corporate gigs, casinos and comedy clubs. She has been featured in Women's Health Magazine, The Today Show, Uproxx.com and Cosmopolitan.com. She truly believes laughter is the best medicine but likes to cover her bases as a board-certified practicing physician in Internal Medicine too.
Lisa Geduldig is a local comic and comedy producer whos the creator, producer, and MC of a variety of comedy shows including Kung Pao Kosher Comedy (now in its 24th year); Funny Girlz: A Smorgasbord of Women Comedians; The Color of Funny: A Multi-Cultural Comedy Show; and A Muslim, A Mormon, and A Jew Walk into A Bar: The Comedy of Religion. She moonlights as a bilingual (Spanish-English) publicist.
