"The OURstory of rhythm in Jazz"
"The OURstory of rhythm in Jazz" Jazz is the superimposition of West African harmonic and rhythmic philosophy onto Western European musical song forms. The great majority of the rules of engagement regarding interplay between Jazz ensembles and dancers, as well as the collective improvisation with the group comes directly out of that of West African dance and drum ensembles. Larry Q Draughn Jr. leads a discussion/demonstration on rhythm in jazz and will be assisted byWest African percussionist Atiba Rorie and marching percussionist extraordinaire, Jason Walker. This talk will give clarity to the African "theory behind the rhythm".
