Erased Architectures: Elliott Sharp & Steve Buscemi / James Ilgenfritz & Cecillia Corrigan
In 2014, ISSUE Project Room, in collaboration with WSB100, presented a celebration of the legacy of William S. Burroughs during the 100th anniversary of the writer's birth. Actor, director, and writer Steve Buscemi and composer/multi-instrumentalist Elliott Sharp collaborated, creating a collage of sound and words from texts by William Burroughs. The performance was documented and September 2016 the album (titled "Rub Out the Word") will be released on Infrequent Seams Records.
In honor of this release, ISSUE has invited Buscemi & Sharp to return to present excerpts of the work. The evening will also feature a new collaboration between current ISSUE Artist-in-Residence, Cecilia Corrigan and past AIR James Ilgenfritzs The Anagram Ensemble. Their piece integrates music based on The Travel Agency Is On Fire (Alex Wermer Colan's recent chapbook of newly-published cut-ups by William Burroughs) with text from Corrigans books Titanic (2014) and her recent chapbook, Cream. The musicians intervene and interpret Corrigans text, which in turn provides a libretto of awkward comic sublimity.
