Hailed internationally for their imaginative, infallible musicality, and huge vitality, the Akropolis Reed Quintet takes listeners on extraordinary music adventures, performing an innovative repertoire with acclaimed precision. Their dynamic and energetic performances feature informative musical introductions; great ensemble chemistry; and accessible contemporary works framed by invigorating arrangements of classical music spanning four centuries. Akropolis is Tim Gocklin (oboe), Kari Dion (clarinet), Matt Landry (saxophone), Andrew Koeppe (bass clarinet), and Ryan Reynolds (bassoon).
The Quintet's program is entitled These American Stories, and will include "The Alcotts" from Piano Sonata No. 2 by Charles Ives as well as Ives's "Variations on America"; "An American in Paris" by George Gershwin; Elegy from Duo Sonata by Gregory Wanamaker; "Sorrow and Celebration for Reed Quintet and Audience" by John Steinmetz; and Duke Ellington's "The Neo-Hip-Hot Cool-Kiddies Communities."
