In the distant future: a controlling corporate government, GOVCentral, aims to eliminate a faction of rebels called the EMANCIPATORS whose goal is to provide freedom for all SYNTHS, the artificially intelligent bio-mechanical androids that are restricted into subservient roles within every strata of society. The Emancipators believe that restricting the Synths, who are capable of true sentience like any human being is tantamount to slavery, and wish to break their bonds and let them control their own destiny. A young detective named Miles Archer is thrust into the center of this struggle after a botched hard-reset leads to him colliding paths with Jane, a rogue Pleasure-Model Synthetic infected with the "emancipation virus". For the first time in her existence she feels emotions as an individual yearning for freedom. Knowing that her memory core holds the key to Synthetic liberation, she enlightens Archer to the moral and ethical opportunity he has to help her achieve this goal. After being labeled a traitor, Archer is forced to choose between his newfound empathy toward Synthetics and his duty as a GovCentral officer.
VISUAL & THEMATIC STYLE: The distant future, where monolithic super structures dotted with neon holographic signs fade into the clouds as highways of flying cars crisscross against the horizon. Synths are everywhere. They are your bank tellers, construction workers, prostitutes and even your schoolteachers. Hard Reset is influenced heavily by contemporary noir science fiction seen in films like Blade Runner, Minority Report and Total Recall. A distant future fraught with moral ambiguity brought on by extreme advancements in technology. Borrowing from the success of these themes we take a unique approach to timeless questions of social equality, moral responsibility, fear of the unknown and the complex nature of humanity.
