Walk / Bike / Paddle Event
2012 Walk / Bike / Paddle Event (West Seattle to Duwamish River Festival)

Walkers, Riders, and Paddlers unite for this very special recreational event leading up to the 7th Annual Duwamish River Festival / Festival del Río Duwamish, which will be going on from 12-4pm. The festival is FREE and will include live music, free lunch, kids' activities, interactive booths, kayak and boat rides, bike repair shop and more!  Arrive in Seattle style and walk, bike, or paddle to the annual festival. Walk/bike/paddle participants will receive an event shirt, a refillable water bottle, and a map at the start. Buttons will also be given at the Walk/Bike/Paddle finish line.

WALK: 6-mile walk from Alki to the Duwamish River Festival in South Park. The route will take you from Seacrest Park along the paved and marked Duwamish River Trail through the industrial areas, parks, and neighborhoods of the Duwamish River. This walk is perfect for families, recreational walkers, bird watchers, history buffs and more! Guides with information about the area will be stationed at rest stops along the way, and will have water, snacks and First Aid. The walk event will end at the 7th Annual Duwamish River Festival / Festival del Río Duwamish.

A 3-mile option is available from Seacrest Park to Herring House Park (4600 West Marginal Way SW) and a van shuttle will take participants the rest of the way to the Festival site.

We encourage people to get to drive to the Duwamish Waterway Park (7900 10th Ave. South, Seattle, WA 98108), park there and then hop on our free shuttle to Seacrest Park.  That way you will have your car at the finish line.

BIKE: A leisurely 9 loop through South Park and Georgetown will start and end at Duwamish Waterway Park. Registration starts at 9AM with guided tours leaving at 9:15 and 9:45AM. A second option of a self-guided tour is available with a map which will be provided at registration. Both options will highlight points of interest along the route.

PADDLE: Alki Kayak Tours will be leading a one way 6-mile kayak tour from Seacrest Park to Duwamish Waterway Park. The tour begins at 9am. Cost is $39 per person. Please RSVP to Alki Kayak Tours (tours@kayakalki.com or 206-953-0237). Participants can also provide their own kayaks and join the tour with a $10 donation to the DRCC. Venture from the shores of Alki with beautiful views of Downtown Seattle and then up the Duwamish River, to learn about the river's history, industry, culture, and wildlife. Kayaks will arrive at the festival in time for the kickoff of the festival.

Tickets for the Walk and Bike activities are $20 per person or $35 per family.  Additional arrangements need to be made with Alki Kayak Tours for the paddling event (see PADDLE section for contact information).
