A Language of Their Own, by Chay Yew
Theatre Diaspora is pleased to announce the final production of 2016: Chay Yew's "A Language of Their Own"-- a project of MEDIARITES PRODUCTIONS.
Directed by: Andrew Klaus-Vineyard Associate Director: Samson Syharath
Each performance will feature talkbacks with AAPI and LGBTQ community speakers.
MediaRites' Theatre Diaspora received support from the Equity Foundation for this staged reading.
SYNOPSIS Set in both Boston and Los Angeles during the 1990s, it is a thoughtful, intimate, and emotional examination of ethnic and sexual identity in the face of the AIDS crisis.
Like our spring production of Julia Cho's The Language Archive, this play similarly explores the idea that relationships are perhaps themselves a form of language--this time between Oscar and Ming, two Asian American men who can't quite seem to learn anyone else's dialects.
Join us for this rare look of the AIDS crisis from the Asian American perspective.
This is a special play that caps off what we believe to be a truly extraordinary season of growth both for our inclusionary mission and company. Join us to celebrate our final show of 2016!
