Jennifer Higdon - Zango Bandango Bryce Dessner - Murder Ballades ----- Aaron Copland - Appalachian Spring Nicole Aldrich, conductor
We explore the uniquely American tapestry opening with a work by Pulitzer prize-winning composer Jennifer Higdon and ending with the American classic Appalachian Spring by Aaron Copland. This program will also feature "Murder Ballades"by Bryce Dessner. Dessner is the lead guitarist for the National and recently received high praise for his music in the blockbuster film the Revenant.
Coplands Appalachian Spring uses the Quaker hymn tis a gift to happy, tis a gift to be free, which will segue from the Dessner to end the evening in a rarely heard chamber version of this quintessential American music.
