Cayuga Chamber Orchestra: Orchestral Series #4
Saturday, March 11, 2017 7:30pm, Ford Hall, Ithaca College Pre-concert Chat 6:45pm
HAYDN: Symphony No. 101 in D Major "The Clock" Lee Strebel Memorial Youth Concerto Competition winners Raymond Feng, piano Sophia Werner, violin PROKOFIEV: Symphony No. 1 in D Major Classical
EXPERIENCE the enduring appeal of Prokofiev and Haydn. Their names may not often show up in the same sentence, but Haydn was the inspiration for this Russian composers Classical Symphony and its fascinating to hear how he incorporated his own unique sound with that of Papa Haydn. Even after composing 100 symphonies, the masterful Haydn was able to pen highly original and dramatic material for #101 which was met with immediate and overwhelming public and critical acclaim.
The CCO is proud to present the Junior Division winners from our 2015 Lee Strebel Memorial Youth Concerto Competition: Raymond Feng, Benjamin Doane, and Sophia Werner. (Benjamin Doane is unable to perform on March 11th so will be featured at a later date.) We are actively committed to being a resource for musical excellence, education, and opportunity for students throughout our region. The Strebel Fund for Community Enrichment, administered through the Community Foundation of Tompkins County, enables us to present these accomplished young artists in concert.
