Kirk Concert & Master Class Series presents Moore Town Granny Nanny Cultural Group
Based in Jamaicas first and only UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Blue & John Crow Mountains National Park, the Granny Nanny Cultural Group, which has a core of 12 members, is a traditional performing arts ensemble, which consists of master musicians, drummers, storytellers, craftspeople, herbal healers and spiritualists. In 2003, UNESCO declared the music of the Moore Town Maroons as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. The ensemble visits Agnes Scott as part of a one-month tour (August 11 September 11, 2016) of Georgia co-sponsored by Georgia State Universitys Center for Collaborative & International Arts (CENCIA). The ensemble visits Agnes Scott College on Thursday, September 1, 2016 for a 1:00pm Master Class/Workshop and a 7:30pm Concert.
