In November we will explore the forest and foods from trees such as; juniper, sumac, pine, spruce and hickory bark. As the forest speaks to us, Tama will provide us with a deeper understanding of the crucial importance of preserving our trees.
Connie Green, mushroom huntress from Wine Forest ((http://wineforest.com/) and author of the Wild Table, will join as a co-host in this workshop. Under safe guidance from the foragers, we will explore the fruits, mushrooms and the world of fungi, while obtaining an understanding of their connection with the trees and soil.
We end the trip with a delightful lunch, which incorporates some of our foraged mushrooms, tree spices, and fruits.

ABOUT THE FORAGER
Tama Matsuoka Wong lives with her husband and their three daughters on 28 acres of land in Hunterdon County, New Jersey. After more than 25 years as a financial-services lawyer in Tokyo, New York and Hong Kong, she and her family moved back to New Jersey. To help alleviate her daughters allergies, Tama wanted to start growing their own food. Gardening proved to be a challenge though, as invasive plants were taking over the land.
Tama was on a quest to eradicate the invasive plants until a house guest mentioned that the weeds were edible. This inspired her to explore and research the world of native plants, which has grown into a passion for sourcing wild flavors for restaurants. Through her work, Tama connects experts in the fields of meadow restoration, botany, and wildlife with people in the community, and introduces a greater appreciation and understanding of the abundance and potential of plants that grow wild.
