This very personal workshop will inspire you to appreciate the wilderness in your own backyard. Wild things can grow even in a container garden.

Wild plants and delicious food can be found all around us, even in very humble places. At our workshop 'Land', forager Tama will provide you with a deeper understanding of foraging in your own backyard or a nearby lawn. She will teach you how to find and identify edible foods using your senses; Experience the relation between smell and taste, and learn how to feel the texture of a leaf to tell when it is most tender.

We end the trip with a delightful light dinner, which showcases some of the wild food we find.

WHAT YOU GET

- Tips for finding and identifying edible plants in the surrounding nature of New York and beyond

- Inspiration on how to cook with wild edible plants at home: tips and recipes from our chefs

- A delightful tasting of food prepared from some of the wild foods we find, by Joe Yardley, Chef de Cuisine at Agern Restaurant. Cold beverages are also included.

ABOUT THE FORAGER

Tama Matsuoka Wong lives with her husband and their three daughters on 28 acres of land in Hunterdon County, New Jersey.
After more than 25 years as a financial-services lawyer in Tokyo, New York and Hong Kong, she and her family moved back to New Jersey. To help alleviate her daughters allergies, Tama wanted to start growing their own food. Gardening proved to be a challenge though, as invasive plants were taking over the land.

Tama was on a quest to eradicate the invasive plants until a house guest mentioned that the weeds were edible.
This inspired her to explore and research the world of native plants, which has grown into a passion for sourcing wild flavors for restaurants. Through her work, Tama connects experts in the fields of meadow restoration, botany, and wildlife with people in the community, and introduces a greater appreciation and understanding of the abundance and potential of plants that grow wild. For more information, see her website meadowsandmore.com.
