Fire Angels-FL04
On a gray December afternoon in 1958, one of the deadliest fires in America took place at Our Lady of Angels elementary school in Chicago, claiming the lives of 92 children and three nuns. Fire Angels by Elizabeth Kern is a fictional account of that fire. Its a story of arson (a troubled 10-year-old boy confesses to starting the fire), of bravery by parents, nuns, firefighters, and medical personnel who come to the rescue; of a falsely accused janitor; of cover-up within the Catholic Church bent on minimizing liability; and of a romance between two teenage survivors. Fire itself is a central character in the story. A cunning, truth-telling observer, Fire comes to life whenever a match is lit. Pffft! Fire Angels will be published by Chicago Review Press in November 2016. Author Elizabeth Kern will discuss the genesis of her latest novel and all of its interesting ramifications at an elegant sit-down luncheon in a lovely local home.
