Voice of the Natural World: An Evening with Bernie Krause
Limited Tickets on Sale at the Door! Author and naturalist Bernie Krause has gained renown for his pioneering work in the field of "soundscape ecology," whereby natural environments are studied acoustically. But lately his acclaim has risen to greater heights due to a new book, a major exhibition in Paris at the Cartier Foundation, a feature article in the New York Times and other media attention.
On Wednesday evening, September 14, this Glen Ellen resident and Sonoma Ecology Center board member will present his work closer to home: at Ramekins Culinary School and Inn in Sonoma, where Krause will give an overview of the environmental health of Sonoma Valley from the perspective of a soundscape ecologist - one who listens, very attentively and scientifically, to the landscape.
In this presentation, Krause's scrupulous recordings, made at Sugarloaf Ridge State Park over the past dozen years, will be rendered with high-fidelity sound equipment, providing amazing insights into the ways in which climate change is expressed through the voice of the natural world. Krause will speak for about an hour on his findings, followed by a brief question-and-answer period.
