Against the Grain/MEN IN DANCE 2016 Festival
Seattle's own Against the Grain/MEN IN DANCE is proud to announce its exciting roster of choreographers for the upcoming two-weekend festival, playing at the Broadway Performance Hall September 30-October 2 (Roster #1); and October 7-9 (Roster #2). This will be the organizations' most diverse festival yet, in terms of dance styles being presented as well as regions being represented. The styles presented will be a mix of modern, contemporary, ballet, circus acts, Early Renaissance sword dancing and more! The chosen artists hail from Seattle, NYC, Massachusetts and Switzerland!
Festival favorite choreographer Mike Esperanza has been commissioned to travel to the NW prior to the festival, to cast and set a new piece of choreography on a group of Seattle men. This original work will anchor both rosters of the Festival. We will also be welcoming the NYC Company 10 HAIRY LEGS to the second roster of the festival. Project 44, with Gierre Godley directing, will bring a new trio to the second weekend, after having been voted panel and audience favorite at the MEN IN DANCE 2015 Showcase. Other choreographers who are new to the festival, are Bruce McCormick, Katheryn Reed, Alex Allan, Anna Conner, and Daniel Costa. Returning choreographers include the Kaleidoscope Company, Laura Beth Rodrguez, Gerard Theoret, Dylan Ward, Deb Wolf, Jamie Karlovich, and Jason Ohlberg. Joshua Morten, currently living and working in Switzerland, will join the event as a special pre-show presentation, as will Jim Coleman (of Massachusetts) and Seattle's Early Dance Company.
