Contemplative Anatomy: An Evening Meditation with Bhante Suddhso and Buddhist Insights
Date: Tuesday, September 6th
Time: 7pm
Admission: $12
Location: Morbid Anatomy Museum, 424 Third Avenue, 11215 Brooklyn NY

Hair, nails, teeth, and skin - this is all we usually see of each other. In the ancient Buddhist practice of Asubha meditation we go deeper: familiarizing ourselves with every component of the body - inside and out. The purpose of this practice is not to bring up disgust, but rather to develop a clear, dispassionate understanding of the true nature of physical form. Bhante Suddhso will guide us through this meditative practice of body contemplation and explain its relevance to the cultivation of unassailable joy.

The evening will include a period of Insight meditation.
All levels of practitioners are welcome.

Buddhist Insights is a non-profit organization connecting people to Buddhist monastics in NYC. www.buddhistinsights.com

Bhante Suddhso is a Buddhist monk living in New York City. As a Theravda Buddhist monk, Bhante Suddhso practices meditation according to the original instructions given by the Buddha in the Pli Canon, the oldest collection of Buddhist scriptures, which contains an enormous amount of very detailed and precise guidelines on how we can live our lives in a way that reduces our dissatisfaction and discontent. Bhante Suddhso has studied under the guidance of some of the most important names in Western Buddhism, such as Ajahn Pasanno, Ajahn Amaro, Ajahn Vradhammo, and Bhante Gunaratana. Ordained at Abhayagiri Buddhist Monastery in California, he was first trained in the Thai Forest Tradition, and has since lived at various Sri-Lankan monasteries in both rural and urban environments. A dedicated teacher, Bhante Suddhso has taught to people of all different ages and walks of life, as well as college students of universities like Harvard, University of Mary Washington, and Suffolk County Community College. The co-founder of Buddhist Insights, a new platform using technology to build community and facilitate access to reliable monastic teachings, his work aims to convey Buddhist concepts and their practical applicability to everyday life.
