House of Time is dedicated to both well-known and underperformed repertoire of the 17th through the 21st century played on period instruments. Members include Juilliard faculty and graduates as well as prize-winners of major international competitions. Using the instruments and techniques of the past to express the vivid passions in the music, House of Time has moved audiences and keeps them coming back for more. Critics have declared oboist, Gonzalo X. Ruiz, one of only a handful of truly superb baroque oboists in the world (Alte Musik Aktuell). Tatiana Daubek, violinist, is known for her expressive and personable performances. Harpsichordist, Avi Stein, one of NYCs finest, is described by the New York Times as a brilliant organ soloist and Beiliang Zhu, is described by the New Yorker as elegant, sensual and stylishly wild.
House of Time has been presented by Berkeley Early Music Festival, Czech Center New York, Early Music Festival: NYC, and The University Club. Upcoming appearances include San Diego and Francisco Early Music Societies, Yale Collection of Musical Instruments and Lobkowicz Palace in Prague. They also give free outreach concerts at Mount Sinai Concerts for Patients in New York City.
On September 30th, 2016, House of Time, kicks off its fourth season with "Four Seasons/Three Graces" playing works of the famed Antonio Vivaldi and present day Carolyn Yarnell.
What if "The Four Seasons", one of the most popular pieces of all time, wasn't an original composition but an arrangement of a lost original? What if Vivaldi had scored his most famous work for a mixed chamber ensemble with violin, flute, and oboe, before reworking it for traditional string orchestra, ashe did with "Il Gardellino", "La Tempesta di Mare", and other concertos? House of Time's thrilling rendition of Gonzalo X. Ruiz's colorful reconstruction of this speculative original presents Vivaldi's naturalistic masterpiece as you've never heard it before. From singing birds to babbling brooks and barking dogs, from summer storms to wintry winds, the seasons come alive in this new chamber setting.Carolyn Yarnell's riveting "Three Graces" is asavage and beautiful musical portrait of three strong women who shaped her childhood in the Sierra Nevada. Commissioned by Gonzalo X. Ruiz and Stephen Schultz, it earned them the 2000 ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming. House of Time ensemble members are: Tatiana Daubek, violins; Gonzalo X. Ruiz, oboe; Beiliang Zhu, cello and viola da gamba; and Avi Stein, harpsichord, each of whom perform on period instruments.
