Bernard Pearce at The Bowery
July 24, 2016 will be a significant day in the life of Bernard Pearce and perhaps will be a day to remember for you as well. Bernard Pearce was born and raised in rural Louisiana. The bayous and swamps of St. Martin Parish are a startling contrast from New York City, however inside his childhood home was a little bubble of New York City. His father was a native of Harlem born in 1945. When he moved to Louisiana he brought with him a vast record and literary collection that contained the essence of New York City. Recordings from Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, John Coltrane and Nina Simone, books by James Baldwin, Langston Hughes, James Weldon Johnson, and Zora Neale Hurston, along with many others... It was this library that fascinated a young Bernard Pearce, the library along with his fathers photographs of the city enchanted Bernard and in him would grow the ambition to be a creative soul, like the heroes of his fathers collection. July 24, 2016 at the Bowery Poetry Club will mark the day Bernard will achieve one of his life long goals, reading from his very own collection of verse in New York City. The author will read from the collection, The Deed to My Bones, and will present songs of his own and songs that have molded his experience.
