Janisse Ray: The Seed Underground
PLACE (Promoting Local Agriculture and Cultural Experiences) is proud to host Janisse Ray as part of Taste Your Place, a two-week summer extravaganza to reaches out to consumers through their taste buds to encourage eating local! Writer, naturalist and activist, Janisse Ray is author of five books of literary nonfiction and a collection of nature poetry. She holds an MFA from the University of Montana and in 2007 was awarded an honorary doctorate from Unity College in Maine. She is on the faculty of Chatham University's low-residency MFA program and is a Woodrow Wilson Visiting Fellow.
Janisse's new book, "The Seed Underground: A Growing Revolution to Save Food," is a voyage to the country of seed-saving. It is driven by stories, from individuals and groups who are waging a lush and quiet revolution in thousands of gardens across America, a battle to preserve our traditional cornucopia of food.
Janisse will share passages from her new book and share her reflections on growing community in concert with the environment.
Light refreshments will be provided.
