The Rooks / Mammal Dap / Los Elk
The Rooks:
If you ask The Rooks about the origin of their sound, chances are theyll concoct a tale of Frank Ocean, J Dilla, and the Talking Heads getting drunk at a dive bar in the year 2023, while Justin Vernon waits in the car to drive everyone home. Push them to be a little more specific (and a little less confusing), and theyll tell you that The Rooks are equal parts kick-back, head-knock, and get-down; the music you rock to at the party, and the perfect soundtrack for the ride home.
A transplant from the Wesleyan University music scene, The Rooks have spent the last four years making noise across New York City and the greater Northeast, gaining substantial recognition for their debut EP, Something You Can Take (May 2013), follow-up single "Twister" (Jan 2014) and most recent releases "Secrets" and "Intermission (Wires)" (both premiered on Okayplayer).
Hard-hitting performances at Irving Plaza, Mercury Lounge and Brooklyn Bowl, as well as highly successful residencies at Arlene's Grocery and Pianos NYC (second highest grossing residency in venue history) have earned them further acclaim, including Deli Magazine's Artist of the Month award (Feb 2014) and recent win of the 14th Annual Independent Music Awards in the R&B/Soul category, finally providing their parents with a tangible means of bragging about their children. The Rooks happily released their second EP, Wires, on Afropunk in June 2015, and are currently booking shows in 2016. They would love for you to join the party, because theyre having an incredible time!

The Mammal Dap:
Mammal Dap is adventurous, instrumental rock fusion based in Northampton, Massachusetts. The band is comprised of Killian Karlsson (guitar), Zack Cross (keys), Reed Sutherland (bass, synth bass), and Colin Jalbert (drums, samples). Together, the four mammals combine elements of rock, EDM, hip-hop, and funk to create a sound that is forward-thinking yet nostalgic, indescribable but strangely familiar. Their energetic live shows and rigorous touring have elevated crowds from New England to New Orleans, leading them to share the stage with acclaimed bands such as The Nth Power, Tauk, Marco Benevento, Toubab Krewe and many more. Their first EP, 5lbs High5, captures the group's earliest songwriting sessions in a swirling blend of psychedelic soul and warm electronic textures. The Massachusetts' Valley Advocate describes it as a lush, laidback and funky sound that would provide a perfect soundtrack for cruising town in a very large Cadillac. The band's first full length, self-titled release marks their arrival with matured and refined sound. The 11-track album showcases focused, road-tested material wrapped in wildly imaginative production. Opting to record the album in their own living rooms, bedrooms and basements allowed the group to meticulously craft the record over a full year. The result is a production that blurs the lines between electronic music and spirited group improvisation. "A compelling combination of Ratatat's elasticity and Flying Lotus's claustrophobia, such subtle yet fierce tracks play along to an intriguingly unpredictable pace." - The Deli. Their next record is currently in production and will be release in late Summer 2016.
