Separation of Church and State?
This class equips students to deal with difficult societal posed by critics of Christianity and the Bible. If you can answer the following questions with good answers then you don't need to take it.
Why should the cross on Mt. Soledad be kept up when it's on government owned property? The government shouldn't be in the business of advocating one religion over others in a pluralistic society. Why should atheists have to support the Christian religion with their tax dollars? Aren't they US citizens too? If you're going to put Christian symbols on government property, equality demands you put the religious symbols of other faiths/non-faiths on government property too, there's not room for that so they should just be taken down altogether. This used to be a Christian nation but it's not anymore, now it's a pluralistic nation. Why shouldn't homosexuals have the same right to marry that heterosexuals do? Who are you to force your morals on someone else? Besides, government shouldn't be telling people who can and can not marry, marriage isn't a government institution. Who are you to say whether or not homosexuals can adopt children? Many homosexuals would make better parents than some heterosexual couples. Anyway, homosexuality isn't a choice anymore than heterosexuality is, you're only opposed to homosexuality because of your blind faith in a 2,000 year old book, if you were born this way then maybe you would understand. Abortion should be legal because a woman who is raped shouldn't have to carry a reminder of the rape for 9 months. Being a teen mom is the number one cause of poverty. By taking away her right to an abortion, you're condemning her to poverty for the rest of her life. Besides it's not even technically alive until after 6 weeks because it can't feel pain or think complex thoughts.
This is just a sampling of some of the tough questions we will deal with in this class.
