The Ultimate Northwest Strawberry Experience
Join us for the fourth annual Shuksan Strawberry picking field trip at the fifth generation Thulen Farm in Skagit County on June 30th.
The day starts at 9:00 a.m. with a brief orientation with fifth generation grower, Chris McKnight and Shuksan booster, Jon Rowley. Then we hit a field of Thulen Farm Shuksan strawberries to pick the reddest, sweetest, juiciest most beautiful berries you can imagine...even more beautiful than you can imagine. If you haven't yet tried Shuksan strawberries, you are in for a treat. Lift the bright emerald green leaves and behold the beautiful, glossy, red berries. Pick one, eat one. Half flat crates are furnished. Bring kids and a camera. Priceless photo-ops. Photo preview of the Ultimate Northwest Strawberry Experience. Wonderful post and photos by Dawn Wright. http://www.wrightangle.com/food/blog/2010/07/01/strawberry-picking-and-a-recipe-for-pickling
Here's is Lorna Yee's account of her first Thulen Shuksan strawberry experience. After a surfeit of picking we will gather at the farm for a Strawberry Social where you will have the opportunity to taste several strawberry varieties side by side. Enjoy Chris Mcknight's fresh Strawberry Ice Cream and Jon Rowley's scrumptious old fashioned drop biscuit Strawberry Shortcake while we mingle and enjoy the magic of the morning. Kids can also shoot hoops in the basketball barn. Shuksans are an amazing berry but they are very perishable. Plan to process them the some day, the sooner the better. In addition to jam, Shuksans freeze very well. Tickets are $40 each and include strawberry picking, two half-flats of berries, Strawberry Social, varietal tasting and discussion. Shoot hoops in the Basketball Barn. Kids under ten are free except for the berries they pick to take home ($13/flat). Need more berries than you will pick? Pre-ordered half flats are $13 each, email Jon with your pre-order. For information contact Jon Rowley at 206.963.5959 or email rowley@nwlink.com. Thulen Farm is located at 12852 Dodge Valley Rd, Mount Vernon, WA.
