SATE presents Mary Shelley Monster Show
For its first production of the Season of Adaptation, SATE will remount its original play, Mary Shelley Monster Show, by Nick Otten. Mary Shelley: the impulsive teen in a runaway love triangle, the precocious novelist, the daughter of revolutionaries, the lover and wife of philosopher-poet. Mary Shelley: the grieving mother, the martyr-widow, the hack writer. Mary Shelley: the monster and monster's mother. Was Mary Shelley's most famous novel, Frankenstein really an autobiography? Is she the creator or the creature? SATE originally produced Mary Shelley Monster Show in August 2014. This remount will adapt the full scope of the play into a production that is adaptable for touring purposes. The remount will include the original actors Carl Overly, Jr., Ellie Schwetye and Rachel Tibbetts, and the original production team Kelley Weber (director), David Blake (set design), Bess Moynihan (lighting design) and Michael Perkins (video design). The original production was nominated for two St. Louis Theatre Circle Awards including "Best New Play" and "Best Design in Lighting." SATE presents Mary Shelley Monster Show, August 18-20 (Thursday-Saturday) at 8:00pm, at The Chapel, 6238 Alexander Drive. A talk-back will follow the performances on Thursday, August 18 and Friday, August 19. Immediately following the performance on Saturday, August 20 (approximate time 9:00pm), SATE will host a party in The Chapel to celebrate its 10th anniversary of producing theatre in St. Louis. There is no charge to attend the party. Tickets are $10 per person and can be purchased with cash, check or at Brown Paper Tickets. Please call (314) 827-5760, email info@slightlyoff.org or visit the SATE website at slightlyoff.org for more information. SATEs production of Mary Shelley Monster Show is made possible by funding from the St. Louis Regional Arts Commission and the Steve Nelson Memorial Playwrights Fund through St. Louis Community Foundation.
