Berlin & Beyond Films at Arena Theater
Arena Theater and the Arena Theater Film Club welcome the return of the acclaimed Berlin & Beyond Film Festival to the Arena Theater's big screen on Saturday, January 19, 2008. Each film will be shown just once. Tickets are $7.00 each and will be available at the theater on the day of the show. For convenience a single $14.00 ticket for both films is available in advance at the following locations: The Four-Eyed Frog Bookstore, Gualala; The Sea Trader, Gualala; The Record Market & Cafe, Point Arena; Tangents, Fort Bragg; and available online at www.brownpapertickets.com. Each film runs approximately 95 minutes and there will be a dinner break between the films. Selected for this year's event are the films "Twisted Sister" (4:00pm) and "Fashion Victims" (7:00pm). (Note: neither film has been rated by the MPAA.)
"Twisted Sister" was directed by Ed Herzog. Although music producer Anne is more than preoccupied with an upcoming abortion which she has kept a secret, and busy with the usual stress at the record company, she wants to be a nice big sister. So, she takes her sister Marie on a vacation to Benidorm in Spain. But already during the first days of their trip, 18-year old Marie realizes that the admired sister is not the big-hearted, self-confident, and competent person Marie had considered her to be. On the contrary, Anne is only putting up a mask to cover her desperation and bitterness without even noticing it herself.
"Fashion Victims" was directed by Ingo Rasper, who will be at the screening along with principal actor Edgar Serge to discuss the film. At 52, traveling salesman Wolfgang Zenker is squarely in old school territory: he peddles the companys classic clothing line to boutiques that cater to women over 35. When Wolfi loses his drivers license, his sons vacation plans take a back seat as Karsten is roped into making sales rounds with his father instead of celebrating his high school graduation. Also making the rounds is successful sales rival Steven, 33. As their paths cross, long-hidden secrets are revealed and things come to a head. "Fashion Victims" won the MK Award for Best First Feature for Berlin & Beyond 2008.
