Italian Virtuosity
The Italian cantata requires of its interpreters musical sensitivity and expressivity, but also
breathtaking feats of virtuosity. Nerea Berraondo, the Spanish mezzo soprano with an
incomparably rich timbre, returns to sing Vivaldi's Nisi Dominus, and the dramatic Medea in
Corinto by Caldara, two brilliants examples of the cantata genre, for which she has a special
affinity. With Margaret Humphrey, violin, and Clea Galhano, recorder.
