Brooklyn By the Book presents Patti Smith
--An evening with Patti Smith in support of her book M Train--
Patti Smith's M Train describes the odyssey of a legendary artist through cafés and haunts around the world. In prose that flows between dreams and reality, past and present, we travel to Frida Kahlos Casa Azul in Mexico; to the fertile moon terrain of Iceland; to a ramshackle seaside bungalow in New Yorks Far Rockaway just before Hurricane Sandy; to the West 4th Street subway station, filled with the sounds of the Velvet Underground after the death of Lou Reed; and to the graves of Genet, Plath, Rimbaud, and Mishima. Braiding despair with hope and consolation, and illustrated with her signature Polaroids, M Train is a meditation on travel, detective shows, literature, and coffee from the National Book Award-winning author of Just Kids.
This program will take place at Congregation Beth Elohim. All tickets come with (1) paperback copy of M Train. All books available for pickup or purchase at the program.
