OpenSource: A Dominick Argento Celebration
Join Source Song Festival in our annual opener featuring Minnesota's finest! 2016 celebrates composer Pulitzer Prize winning composer Dominick Argento. Regarded as America's preeminent composer of lyric opera, the emphasis on the human voice is a facet of the powerful dramatic impulse that drives nearly all of his music, both instrumental and vocal. Music critic Heidi Waleson has described Argento's work as "richly melodic... [;;;his];;;; pieces are built with wit and passion, and always with the dramatic shape and color that make them theater. They speak to the heart."
Source offers an evening devoted to the vocal music of Dominick Argento. Interviews with the composer and the premiering artists of "Letters from Composers," "Three Meditations," and "A Few Words About Chekhov," will precede performances of these works. This unique format will showcase the true genius of Dominick Argento. Join us!
Featured Performers: Håkan Hagegård, Martin Katz, Maria Jette, Adriana Zabala, Jeffrey Van, Michael Slattery, and Jesse Blumberg.
