Chuckanut Radio Hour featuring Jesse McRae, author of My Four-Minute Life
My Four-Minute Life is a memoir of seven-plus decades as a human being in stories, lyrics, philosophies, and opinions, predicated on a fifty-year love affair with songwriting. In this intimate and unflinching exploration of his life, Jesse McRae offers his observations on creativity and childhood trauma, relationships, personal growth, single-parenting, depression, addiction, recovery, healing, love, redemption and humor; and on the craft, inspiration, and business of songwriting. Jesse McRae has been a songwriter since the mid-sixties, and a performer since 1974. During that time, he has traveled extensively, from the Arctic Circle to the Gulf of Mexico, and from coast to coast in Canada and the United States. He has worked as a radio host, newspaper and magazine writer, carpenter, house painter, truck driver, and more but he has rarely stopped writing songs. A Nashville resident for many years, he now lives in Bellingham. Musician Steve Webb will perform a selection of Jesses original songs at the event.
The Chuckanut Radio Hour, a recipient of Bellingham's prestigious Mayor's Arts Award, is a radio variety show that began in January 2007. Each Chuckanut Radio Hour features a guest author and includes guest musicians, performance poet Kevin Murphy, Cascadia Weekly columnist Alan Rhodes, an episode of "The Bellingham Bean" serial radio comedy, and some groaner jokes by hosts Chuck & Dee Robinson and announcer Rich Donnelly. The Chuckanut Radio Hour's first guest was Erik Larson and has since included Alexander McCall Smith, Elizabeth George, Cheryl Strayed, Sherman Alexie, Tom Robbins and Garrison Keillor, among many others. The Radio Hour airs every Saturday evening at 6pm and Sunday at 9pm on SPARK RADIO, KMRE 102.3FM. Tickets for the Chuckanut Radio Hour are $5 and are available at Village Books and BrownPaperTickets.com. Doors open at 6:30pm, and you must be seated by 6:45pm as the show begins promptly at 7pm.
