Small Business Lunch at Halls
The King Street Marketing Group and Halls Chophouse are pleased to welcome Raphael James, News Anchor at Live-5 News, WCSC-TV in Charleston, as our guest speaker at Small Business Lunch at Halls Thursday, July 7.
For nearly 14 years Raphael James has brought us the news, good and bad, from his anchor seat at Live-5 News at 5:30, 7:00 and 11:00 p.m. My job is to help, to inform and to be true; not just to you, but to myself.
The number of nationally important news stories that originate here rivals that of the largest U.S. media markets in spite of the fact that Charleston is ranked number 99, barely making the Top-100 markets by population.
James has been able to report the good news like Charleston being named Best Tourist Destination in the U.S., Boeing selecting Charleston to build the Dreamliner, Volvo and Mercedes Benz Vans building their first U.S. assembly plants here.
But James has reported on the horrible news from here, too. None of us will forget his coverage of the Mother Emmanuel Murders, the Walter Scott killing, or what 27 inches of rain fell in an 18-hour period and the havoc it created in Charleston.
James began his career in broadcast journalism after earning a B.S. in Mass Communications from Paine College in Augusta, Georgia. He stayed in Augusta area becoming a reporter for WRDW-TV and WBBQ-FM before moving to the News Anchor spot WJBF-TV that he held for five years before coming to Charleston.
Raphael James and his wife Sarena have three children and, between them, developed a website, OnAisle9.com, to provide a resource for other families with special needs children, and encourage those parents to learn more about specialized care.
Each month, Small Business Lunch at Halls features a distinguished speaker from the business, civic or political arenas upstairs at Halls Chophouse with an imaginative three-course meal prepared by Executive Chef Adam Jakins.
Tickets are $30 per person plus tax and processing fee for the luncheon. A full-service cash bar is available for your enjoyment. Doors open at 11:30 AM and lunch is served promptly at noon. Limited seating of 90 participants provides an intimate experience with each speaker.
Halls Chophouse is located at 434 King Street in downtown Charleston. Convenient parking is available at the Visitors Center Garage on Ann Street between King and Meeting Streets.
