Though storytelling is often a verbal or written presentation, stories surround us in every detail of our lives. Our imaginations soar when we see a whimsical piece, childhood memories are triggered by certain colors and shapes, textures remind us of another time in our lives.
A Well-Crafted Tale is an open, juried exhibition of fine craft with an emphasis on storytelling. Artists from around the country submitted artwork which was juried by Amanda Cooper, curator at the Morean Arts Center, St. Petersburg. The result is a fascinating collection of humorous, intriguing and sometimes even dark pieces which will inspire you to imagine your own story.
Participants will write a one page ekphrastic story inspired by Florida Craft Arts' exhibition, A Well-Crafted Tale. We will meet at Florida Craft Art to view the 52 pieces on display.
You will pick the piece that most inspires you (no two writers will write about the same piece) and after viewing the work we will go to a classroom above the gallery to flesh out our thoughts/writing. Participants will then perform their work at the closing reception for A-Well Crafted Tale on Saturday, August 13 (4:00-5:30pm) at Florida Craft Art, along with eight local poets chosen by St. Petersburg Poet Laurete, Helen Priutt Wallace.
*This class is limited to eight participants. For more info about the exhibit: http://www.floridacraftart.org/
