How do we find the beginning and end of a poem, especially for those Big Idea topics dealing with conflict, war, and grief? How do we enter difficult topics in a way that engages the reader, and how do we avoid that pretty little bow that threatens the conclusions of complex poems? In this workshop, we will look at entry/exit methods in a number of examples, first answering the question, What is this poem about? then analyzing why each author chose their selected entry and exits points within the poem.
About the Instructor: Sarah Kirstine Lain graduated with her MFA in poetry from Lesley University. She lives in St. Petersburg, FL, where she teaches writing. Sarah is a reader for the poems2go project. Her work was recently published in B O D Y literary journal.
