The Open House
Written by Will Eno February 16 - March 2, 2017
Will Eno deconstructs the archetypical family drama structure in "The Open House". His subversive and funny take is dense with authentic feeling and pain, ultimately evolving into something haunted and mysterious and grand, even hopeful. Two grown children have come home to visit their pleasant but wickedly passive-aggressive mother and their misanthrope father who is recovering from a stroke and doesnt have a kind word for anyone. Lurking in the background is dads odd brother who is still mourning the loss of his wife.
The tone of the play shifts into science-fiction territory when one of the children leaves the cozy house to pick up deli sandwiches for lunch. "The Open House" won a Drama Desk Award, the 2014 Obie Award for Playwriting and the 2014 Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Play. It was on the Top Ten Plays of 2014 lists of TIME magazine, Time Out New York and the NY Daily News"
