THE PLAYS
Our Lady of the Clouds by ArĂstides Vargas (Ecuador) How do we remember our countries when we live far away? Are our memories reliable? A magical realism play interweaving poetry, dreams, reality, idealism, pain and humor to explore exile and memory.
Topdog/Underdog by Suzan Lori-Parks (USA) Recipient of the 2002 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, this play is a darkly comic fable of brotherly love and family identity. Humor, drama and family conflicts come to life through the relationship of two brothers, Lincoln and Booth, names given to them as a joke by their father. Haunted by the past and their obsession with the street con game, three-card monte, the brothers come to learn the true nature of their history.
Juan Palmieri by Antonio Larreta (Uruguay) Montevideo, Uruguay, 1967-1971. Carmen's son has joined the Tupamaro Revolutionaries and goes missing. As she tries to understand where her son is she learns in this dictatorship, things may not be what they seem.
