DemocracyFest 10th Anniversary Reunion Concert
We are coming up on ten years since DemocracyFest hit the campus of San Diego State on a scorching weekend -- an incredible weekend culminating months of planning and hustle by an indefatigible band of grassroots activists. Crowning the three-day event? The "Saturday Night Beach Party Blowout" in the then Open Air Theater, featuring local and national musical artists, comedians/social critics, and political figures.
The iconic Berkley Hart and Cindy Lee Berryhill were our local music headliners, and the producer of the Saturday Night Beach Party Blowout was Charlie Imes.
Seemed like a great excuse for a fun night of really cool music from these three very talented artists to perform for you and share some funny stories and anecdotes from the evening spent behind the scenes and backstage with the likes of Al Franken, Marc Maron, Laurence Juber, Howard Dean, Gary Hoey and more.
Please join us! More about each of our artists ...
Berkley Hart has found something that works. The combination of Kerrville New Folk Songwriter Award winner, Jeff Berkley, and stand-out wordsmith, Calman Hart, creates a pairing that has become one of the premier acoustic duos touring the country. Every Berkley Hart show is packed with entertainment as the duo combines their natural down-home humor with poignant, delicate, masterfully crafted lyrics delivered with stunning harmony and musicianship. Between songs, the obvious camaraderie between these two top songwriters shines as they effortlessly play off each other in what can only be called genuine comedy. Add in virtuoso playing from both Jeff Berkley (guitar, percussion) and Calman Hart (guitar, harmonica) and its easy to see why the two have become live favorites.
"A woman of Cindy Lee's capacity as a lyricist is unique, her insight and raw ability to articulate the human dilemma and articulate it in short order is peerless. She deserves a berth in any Hall of Fame, for the humanities she brings to the usual vanities of song-writing. Somehow I get the impression she knows her legacy will outlive her." - Van Dyke Parks
"It has been my pleasure to have Charlie Imes perform at our venue ... Charlie has a great rapport with the audience. His natural, easy-going attitude makes everyone feel relaxed and comfortable, and he always has a positive influence on the crowds." - Ingrid Croce, Owner of Croce's Park West
