Dybbuk - A multimedia chamber opera
A young woman, near-death, awakens to the whisper of a clarinet. She must choose between life with a man she does not know and death with her beloved, who has possessed her as a dybbuka deceased soul who takes possession of a living body. The Dybbuk is a multimedia chamber opera composed by Ofer Ben-Amots and inspired by S. Anskys timeless Yiddish play. Folk elements intertwine with contemporary musical textures to create a haunting world, while multiple video projections tell a powerful story of faith, mysticism, and passion. The OFJCC presents the exclusive West Coast premiere. The performance is in both English and Hebrew with supertitles. Join a pre-show lecture and talk with three world experts on the topic of the Dybbuk. Kol Emets Senior Rabbi David Booth, Stanford Professor and renowned Ansky scholar Gabriella Safran and the composer and Colorado University composition Professor Ofer Ben Amots.
