Monterey Pop, a film by D.A. Pennebaker
Take a trip back to the heady, hippie days of 1967 with the seminal rock film MONTEREY POP!
MONTEREY POP (1967), directed by D.A. Pennebaker and featuring concert performances by Jimi Hendrix, Big Brother and the Holding Company, Otis Redding and many others. Pennebaker pretty much wrote the book on how to film a rock concert, and set the staqe for the later and more elaborate film WOODSTOCK.
"[;T];he music and its... celebrants are like a wonderful secret wonderful because even though everyone knows about it, it still delivers the thrill of discovery. Unveiled in 1968, the director's vision of the 1967 event was instrumental in convincing potential organizers and participants that music was the healthiest way to crystallize the energy of a counterculture that by then seemed both blessedly inevitable and dangerously embattled." Rock critic Robert Christgau.
No-host beer wine, doors open 1/2 hour before showtime.
