Oil Lamp Theaters 44 Plays For 44 Presidents is an upbeat, rapid-fire celebration of the American presidency thats guaranteed to brighten your mood and lift your spirits. Told in a snappy vaudevillian style, this revue remembers each of our 44 presidents with his own short play a brief vignette that may consist of a sketch, a dance, a musical number ranging from a Bach cantata to Gospel, a borscht-belt roast even bread-eating! 44 Plays condenses over 225 years of star-spangled historical malarkey into high-energy entertainment.
Created and originally produced by Chicagos experimental theater company The Neofuturists, 44 Plays For 44 Presidents celebrates the comic, tragic and sometimes surreal lives and legacies of our presidents. This provocative chronicle explores the human and humanly fallible side of each of our 44 presidents while underscoring the important role that WE, the American people, have also played in shaping this history. After all, for better or worse, we elected each of leaders, and have thus, in many ways, written our own story.
Becca Holloway, director of 44 plays notes, Were staying true to the Neofuturists vision of not trying to imitate a specific president. A performer may be quoting the words of say, George Washington, but isnt trying to create a realistic characterization of him. Holloway adds that this production will bring something new to the Oil Lamp stage: There will be a lot of dancing, a lot of movement, and lot of music with instrumental accompaniment by members of the ensemble. We have an outstandingly talented cast for this production, and were going to feature them doing all the many things they do so well!

Performances of 44 plays For 44 Presidents run from October 6th through November 13th Thursdays through Sundays. For evening performances, doors open at 7:30 and shows begin at 8:00. For Sunday matinees, doors open at 2:30 and the show begins at 3:00. Oil Lamp Theater is a BYOB establishment. Tickets are $35 and are available through oillamptheater.org or at our box office on Mondays and Thursdays from Noon to 5 pm. Group rates are available.
The show runs 2 hours including intermission.
