Breach Theatre present: TANK
In 1965, a woman lived with a dolphin for 10 weeks to try and teach him to speak English through his blowhole - part of a NASA-funded research project into human-animal communication.
Condemned by the wider scientific community as an elaborate circus trick and by Hustler magazine for the supposed interspecies sex that took place the experiment remains a controversial episode in the space race between the two Cold War superpowers
Inspired by Margaret's time with Peter in the Dolphin House, Love Tank will explore the politics of language, the power of culture and what happens when you inject a cetacean with LSD. Breach's follow-up to The Beanfield was initiated on a residency at the Lyric Hammersmith and has been commissioned by the Battersea Arts Centre. It is supported by Camden People's Theatre, Theatre Delicatessen and the New Diorama Theatre. The show will be co-directed by Billy Barrett and Ellice Stevens, devised in collaboration with four new associate performers.
