New Orleans Jazz Vipers, featuring Charlie Halloran and Chloe Feoranzo
The New Orleans Jazz Vipers originated fifteen years ago in the streets of the French Quarter, and are pioneers of the Frenchmen Street swing renaissance. Think Count Basie meets The Washboard Rhythm Kings with a little Fats Waller and Louis Armstrong. Much of the Vipers unique sound comes from the absence of the drum kit; the tenacious rhythm is driven soundly by the guitar and upright bass. The Vipers were the first jazz band to play at the world famous Spotted Cat Music Club, and have maintained weekly gigs, festival shows and TV appearances on HBOs Treme as well as CSI: New Orleans.
Joining the Jazz Vipers on trombone is St Louis native Charlie Halloran. In addition to the occasional tours with the Squirrel Nut Zippers, Charlie keeps a busy schedule in New Orleans playing with the Shotgun Jazz Band, Tuba Skinny, Meschiya Lake, Panorama Jazz Band, Palmetto Bug Stompers, and over at the Palm Court and Preservation Hall. Charlie appears on Jon Clearys Grammy winning album Go Go Juice, as well as recordings by Rickie Lee Jones, John Boutte, Pokey LaFarge, and St Louis favorite (and older brother/teacher), Tommy Halloran.
Also joining the Vipers, fresh from her move from St Louis to New Orleans, is fan favorite Chloe Feoranzo. Chloe recently wrapped up three years of touring with Pokey LaFarge, with whom she appeared on The David Letterman Show, A Prairie Home Companion, and the Grand Ol Opry. She has quickly began working regularly in the large traditional jazz community in New Orleans.
