October 8, 2016 marks the twenty-third annual World Championship Abalone Cook-off & Festival held at South Noyo Harbor in Fort Bragg. Festival goers will enjoy live music by the Bayou Swamis,a sampling of local beer from the North coast Brewery and fine Mendocino County wine for sale, crafts fair, silent auction,farm-raised abalone chowder, and other tasty fare.
The purchase of a judging ticket allows for the added pleasure of tasting up to ten samples of the delectable wild-caught cook-off entries. Abalone divers (who must abide by all sport fishing rules and regulations) will travel from as far away as Hawaii and Australia this October to compete for the World Championship title.
Please note that all the abalone prepared in the cook-off is wild-caught and ocean conditions may affect the divers' ability to dive for abalone. For this reason, MAPA cannot guarantee that a full 10 tastes will be available. This event is a fundraiser produced by the Mendocino Area Parks Association (MAPA) to support natural and cultural history programs in the State Parks of Mendocino County, as well as park improvement projects, park advocacy, and the operation of Standish-Hickey State Recreation Area.
Members of the Mendocino Area Parks Association can purchase advance discount tickets beginning June 1st 2016 for $70. To purchase member discounted tickets you will need to have a member number or "discount code"
General non-member tickets will be available starting July 1st 2016 for $85. **Judging tickets are non-refundable.
