Join us Wednesday, July 13th and enjoy local brews by Commons Brewery, pizza from Red Sauce Pizza and a concession stand packed with farm-made movie snacks. We will be showing 'Some Kind of Wonderful', a feel good 80's movie!!! Did I mention you should ride your bike?! It's a bike in movie ya'll. Ticket includes admission, a slice of pizza, a beer and a farmy concession treat.
RED SAUCE PIZZA Red Sauce Pizza is owned and operated by Shardell Dues. Shardells first job was making pizza and it will be her last job. Shardell has been making pizza for about 20 years and shes so happy to own a little pizza shop that serves great food for her community. But Shardell didnt make her dream a reality without a lot of hard work, a little luck and a bunch of help. Her friends and family helped do all the things, like: wash walls; paint walls; hang drywall; build some stairs; taste test pizza (the fun part!); be the biggest cheerleaders; find, repair and paint all the tables and chairs; hang pictures; paint more walls; and on and on to do all the stuff we did to open this lil spot. Each of the pizzas on the menu are named in honor of a person who helped make Red Sauce Pizza possible. They are located on 42nd Avenue. They love this neighborhood and this neighborhood loves pizza! Carrying on the tradition of the Cully Neighborhood pizzeria that started when Bob Cassidy opened Bobs Pizza in this location in 1971. Red Sauce opened their doors in 2015, but we continued (with Bobs permission of course) Bobs upside down bIZZ sign.
THE COMMONS BREWERY The Commons Brewery started in Mike Wrights garage in Southeast Portland. A true nano brewery to be sure. The Commons strives to make well executed, moderate alcohol beers with a refreshing and unique character (most often with yeasts originating from Europe). The beers are geared to be session-able and therefore enable or enhance social interaction. For consumers, the focus should be on friends and family they are sharing time with (gather around beer). After a short stint in the garage brewery, Mike decided to expand the operation to a 7bbl brewhouse and a new space. The work began in the summer of 2011 and wrapped up that winter. Brewing on the new system commenced on September 15, 2011 and the tasting room opened December 3rd, 2011. Today they are three people strong. Sean Burke joined The Commons in July of 2011 right after completing the Master Brewers program at Siebel Institute and Doemens Academy. Sean helped assemble the brewery and get the new operation off the ground. Not long after Seans arrival, Josh Grgas joined the team to handle sales and distribution. Josh had spent the previous two years working at the Beermongers as a beer-tender and beer buyer. The Mongers happened to be one of Mikes neighborhood haunts.
